ICG Rescues U.S. Sailing Vessel ‘Sea Angel’ Off Andaman Coast; Two Crew Members Safe
Port Blair / Campbell Bay : The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully executed a daring rescue operation to assist a stranded U.S. sailing vessel, ‘Sea Angel’, approximately 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point, in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, on July 10, 2025.
The yacht, carrying two crew members, suffered mechanical failure in severe sea conditions — with its sail blown out and propeller entangled, rendering it completely disabled. Acting swiftly on a distress alert received by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Port Blair, the ICG initiated a coordinated response, notifying nearby merchant vessels and launching immediate rescue protocols.
ICG Ship Rajveer was dispatched to the location and established communication with the distressed crew. A detailed on-site assessment confirmed that despite high winds and mechanical issues, the crew was safe and in good health.
Thanks to the professionalism and preparedness of the Coast Guard, the yacht was safely towed and escorted to Campbell Bay Harbour by the morning of July 11, 2025, ensuring the well-being of both foreign nationals on board.
The timely response underscores the ICG’s unwavering commitment to maritime safety and international cooperation in the region.
