BSF Apprehends A Smuggler With Bangladeshi Taka On The Indo-Bangladesh Border

Kolkata: Vigilant troops of ICP Petrapole, 145 Battalion BSF, under the south Bengal frontier, on 12th February thwarted a smuggling attempt, based on specific information regarding the smuggling of excess Bangladeshi Currency and other items from India to Bangladesh through ICP Petrapole. BSF Jawans apprehended an Indian passport passenger with 3,50,000 Bangladeshi Taka having Indian value of Rs 2,63,377/- when he was trying to smuggle these Currency from India to Bangladesh.

According to the information, on pursuing the information received regarding possible smuggling, alert jawans of ICP Old Immigration Party were keeping a strict watch on the passengers. On observing a suspicious passenger, the troops stopped and searched him. During the search, 3.5 lakh Bangladeshi Taka were found in his pant pocket. When the passenger was asked about Bangladeshi Taka, he was unable to answer. The passenger was arrested with Bangladeshi taka.

The identity of the apprehended smuggler as an Indian National named Uttam Dey, resident of Chandipur, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

During interrogation, he revealed that he had been working as a goods carrier from India to Bangladesh for a few days to earn his livelihood. He further revealed that he had received the BD taka from Tusar Sutradhar at Maa Variety Enterprise, Petrapole, which was to be further handed over to Ravi Enterprise at Benapole, Bangladesh. He was to get Rs 1000 for this work. But while on his way to Bangladesh via ICP Petrapole, he was apprehended by BSF jawans with illegally carrying of excess BD currency.

The apprehended person and seized Bangladeshi taka have been handed over to the Customs Department, Petrapole.

A. K. Arya, DIG, Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier, expressed happiness over the success of the soldiers and said that this is only a reflection of the alertness displayed by the Border Security Force soldiers deployed on duty. He has urged people not to adopt the path of smuggling under any circumstances. He said in strong words that the Border Security Force personnel will not allow smuggling or any other kind of crime to take place on the border under any circumstances and will not spare the persons involved in it.
