DG NCC Visits West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate

Kolkata: DG visited Directorate and was briefed in detail about ongoing efforts towards empowering NCC Cadets of West Bengal and Sikkim. The Directorate traces its origin to 1917 and has remained committed to Nation Building through youth empowerment with more than One Lakh youth of the two states currently enrolled it.

The DG reviewed all aspects of functioning and training while visiting units and interacted with Cadets, Staff as also Associated NCC officers of state educational institutions. He exhorted all to work with utmost sincerity towards introducing and enabling cadets towards successful persuit of a bright career and a responsible citizen.

The NCC Directorate at Kolkata has been closely synergising its awareness and training efforts with Army Recruitment organizations to offer job opportunities to Ex NCC Cadets in Armed Forces. Special capsules have also been organised for SSB training. The DG was briefed by Air Wing and Naval Wing of the Directorate on recent sailing expedition as also flying being undertaken including simulator training as NCC moves to enhance technology infusion into training methodology.

The Additional Directorate General of West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate thanked the DG for increased support to Directorate in recent past to overcome all challenges. The expansion plan for NCC in the two states was also discussed for which West Bengal Govt has already given the In Principle Approval.

Visit to Belur Math and Dakshineshwar NCC units provided a ground sense of various NCC activities as also positive difference being made. The DG addressed large number of cadets and staff at NCC Club House. In recognition of efforts of the achievers, awards in various fields were presented. These included Senior Under Officer Baisakhi Dey of 3 Bengal Battalion NCC who displayed bravery and presence of mind to save a fellow cadet who was injured in a train accident.

Senior Under Officer Lakshmi Sharma of 1 Bengal Battalion NCC, Cadet Pommy Bhakat of 15 Bengal Girls Battalion NCC and Cadet Madhumita Manna of 55 Bengal Battalion NCC also received awards from the DG for their outstanding performances. The Director General also presented a DG NCC Commendation Card to Lt Dinesh Sharma, Assosiate NCC Officer of 4 Sikkim Battalion NCC, Plaque to Havildar Amit Rai of 14 Bengal Battalion NCC, Girl Cadet Instructor Sujata Roy of 5 Bengal Girls Battalion NCC, Rintu Halder, office clerk of 1 Bengal Armoured Squadron NCC and Captain Arunava Banerjee of 56 Bengal Battalion NCC. The DG laid emphasis on the spirit of NCC wherein the cadets are an example of Unity and Discipline and urged them to be role models and rise to the call of the society and the nation when the need arises.

While briefing to media Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Director General National Cadet Corps (NCC) said “While interacting with the NCC Cadets I always instruct them 3 to 4 key points to follow in service. One is ‘Desperate of Nation First’. Second is the motto of NCC that is ‘Unity and Discipline’. Third ‘Never Give up’, which they have been already instructed to at training. They should never give up, always give more, go ahead and proceed further.”
