Eastern Railways Adds New Local Train Services from Bidhannagar Road to Kalyani
Kolkata: Eastern Railways, Sealdah Division, has announced the introduction of a new pair of suburban train services from Bidhannagar Road to Kalyani, aimed at easing congestion and enhancing the travel experience for thousands of daily commuters. The service will commence from Monday, September 22, 2025, and will operate from Monday to Saturday each week.
Bidhannagar Road Station, a lifeline of Kolkata’s suburban rail network, handles a staggering 1.7 lakh passengers daily, with over 1 lakh commuters during peak hours alone. Its strategic location near Salt Lake, Sealdah, Kankurgachi, Sector V, and New Town Rajarhat makes it one of the busiest hubs in the Sealdah Division. The station also serves as a vital connector between the North and South sections of the network.
To address the growing demand, Eastern Railways will operate the new 31343 UP Bidhannagar Road–Kalyani Local, departing Bidhannagar Road at 19:27 hrs and reaching Kalyani at 20:36 hrs, with stoppages at all intermediate stations. In the return direction, the 31340 DN Kalyani–Sealdah Local will leave Kalyani at 20:55 hrs and arrive at Sealdah at 22:19 hrs.
A senior railway official said, “The introduction of these additional services reflects our commitment to ensure passenger safety, reduce overcrowding, and provide more reliable travel options to the people of Kolkata.”
With the festive season approaching, this initiative is expected to provide much-needed relief to daily commuters and enhance overall passenger convenience.
