Ruby Cancer Centre Organises Breast Cancer Awareness Rally in Kolkata, Over 350 Participate
Kolkata: More than 350 people took part in a breast cancer awareness rally organised by Ruby Cancer Centre, a unit of Ruby General Hospital, in Kolkata on Saturday. The rally brought together cancer survivors, their families, doctors, healthcare professionals, nursing students and members of the cultural and sporting fraternity to spread awareness about early detection and timely treatment of breast cancer.
The rally began from Ruby General Hospital at 9 am, with 15 cancer survivors also joining the initiative. Participants walked together to highlight the importance of breast health awareness and encourage women to seek medical advice without delay if they notice any unusual changes.
Breast cancer continues to be a major health concern among women in India. Medical experts point out that many cases are detected at an advanced stage, often due to a lack of awareness or delays in seeking medical attention. While factors such as genetics, obesity and lifestyle can influence the risk, breast cancer can also develop in women without any identifiable risk factors.
Doctors associated with Ruby Cancer Centre stressed that early detection plays a crucial role in improving treatment outcomes. They urged women to remain alert to possible warning signs, including painless lumps, changes in breast skin, nipple discharge and alterations in breast shape or appearance.
The medical team also highlighted the importance of regular clinical breast examinations and mammography, particularly as recommended by healthcare professionals. Women were encouraged to understand their normal breast health and consult a doctor if they notice any unusual changes.
Several prominent personalities from the Bengali entertainment and cultural fraternity participated in the rally, including Phalguni Chatterjee, Sudeshna Roy, Chandan Sen, Arijit Dutta, Nandini Chatterjee, Vicky Nandi, Sree Bhattacharya, Aryuun Ghosh, Subhrajit Datta, Arindam Ganguly, Saikat Mitra, Soumitra Talapatra, Satrajit Sen, Abhimanyu Mukherjee, Anjan Prasad Majumdar, Prof. Amita Dutt and Anilava Chatterjee. Archer Dola Banerjee also joined the campaign, extending support to the breast cancer awareness initiative.
Ruby Cancer Centre has been conducting cancer awareness and public education programmes since 2014 in association with Ruby General Hospital and the Ruby Cancer Care & Research Foundation. The latest rally continued this effort by bringing together survivors, medical professionals and public figures on a common platform to promote awareness, early diagnosis and access to timely cancer care.
